The Painted Rooster was founded August 2012 in the heart of downtown Clinton, Iowa, by Sandra Land and her daughters Emily Steenhard and Erin George. Both girls returned to Clinton to raise their families after years of being away. Emily had lived in Southwest Iowa, while Erin lived in Denver. All three women have enjoyed years of being on "the world shopping tour". They felt that Clinton was in need of a specialty boutique - a place that offered high end quality clothes for women and children, indulgent gifts, personal care products and exceptional househould items. The trio wanted to offer a unique shopping environment, with a way to experience the finer things in life without having to leave home.

One year later, the dream has grown to encompass both The Painted Rooster and community involvement and improvement. Emily and Erin are now founders and co-presidents of the Clinton 4th of July Festival, a day which offers old-fashioned family fun free to the public. Emily is an ambassador for the Clinton Chamber of Commerce and Erin sits on the board of the Downtown Clinton Alliance. They wish to grow the dream from one family business into revitalizing and growing downtown Clinton, Iowa.

Sandra, Emily and Erin can remember when Clinton had a thriving downtown. They want to again provide that for their children...one building, one business at a time... by creating opportunities for others in downtown Clinton.

Our Dream Big Grow Here vision is a beautiful thriving downtown. Where cars line the street, people fill the sidewalk, shops and restaurants occupy every building and planters are overflowing with flowers. WE DREAM BIG! We believe Clinton can once again be prosperous. If we were to win the grant money, it would be used as seed money for the purchase and remodeling of another potential downtown Clinton business. Continuing the one building one business at a time momentum, thus providing another individual to fulfill their dream.
